Watson Twins, plus Yeasayer (and Yea for Mayer!!!)

2 quick and exciting notes on the music front: Yeasayer and the Watson Twins both released *NEW* albums yesterday (Tuesday, February 9). The Watson Twins made their name pretty much entirely on the basis of their 2006 collaboration with Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley. In general, I'm pretty "eehh, whatever" about Ri-Ki... if there were a color-coding system to indicate my Average Enthusiasm Level regarding their music, I'd probably fall somewhere between Mildly Boring Brown and Totally Turd-y Taupe. Granted, I can't claim to know many of their songs other than those from their 2004 album More Adventurous, but, overall, they've just never really salted my potato. However, Ms. Lewis - Other Rilo Kiley Members + The Watson Twins=QUITE the winning combination. Their collaboration, 2006's Rabbit Fur Coat, has a soulful alt-country feel to it, and anyone with love for Neko Case probably either A.) Loved the album/Jen-in-gen, or B.) Hated Jenny & the twinsies for reminding them of Neko but not actually being Neko.

But I digress (ugh, as always). The point is, the Watson Twins got me interested in an artist who I'd sort of dismissed, so I'm excited to see how they stand alone on their new album Talking to You, Talking to Me, released yesterday on Vanguard Records. Although it's not their first album, it's definitely the first one to get much real "buzz" since Rabbit Fur Coat. I have a good feeling about this one.

Brooklyn-based Yeasayer also just released a new album called Odd Blood. If the album's leading single, "I Remember," is any indication of how the rest of the album is going to sound, well, we're in for a record filled with angelic anthem-like tracks. Yeasayer's music, in general, is just...ethereal. (Refer to their 2007 gem All Hour Cymbals.) Other-worldly or something. It's late right now, and I'm not so awesome at coming up with descriptions for music this... mythical and verve-tastic, so if you're unsure about whether Yeasayer would get a Yay or Nay (Yea or Nea?) from you, think Arcade Fire crossed with a gospel choir. A gospel choir made up of beaming, blonde, baby-faced boy angels. Or something. OK, I think I'm done here.

^What do you think about the OB cover? Doesn't it kind of remind you of like a cross between E.T. and one of the Mount Rushmore heads? Just a thought. See below:

Valid point, right? Come on, tell me I'm not weird.

Anyway...3rdly: I'll be at the John Mayer concert tomorrow (well, actually, tonight) at the Sommet Center in Nashvegas. Super pumped about seeing my favorite jerk ever perform and steal my heart all over again. I'm prepping my feet for dancing, soul for soothing, mind for blowing, heart for melting, and nose for bleeding (based on my not-so-hot seats.) I'll be there with bells on, and a whole lot of Fan-cy Enthusiasm. I CAN'T WAIT. :)

just in case you need more convincing as to why I should be excited:

Giddiness has officially set in!!
